The Recent Events window lists all game events that have occurred in the past two hours, with newly received events highlighted yellow. Most events are received in near real time (within a minute), however some more sensitive data such as brigade movements are purposely delayed by CRS – the tooltip for each event will give its age and, if different, when it was received. Events are normally listed in ascending order but if you're a “new email at top” kinda person the sort order can be changed under Misc Options.

Events can be filtered by their category by selecting the checkboxes along the bottom. Your selection will be remembered next time you run BEGM. Note the Factory option is only available when you have the factory data loaded.
